About VOLUME

VOLUME is a bi-annual magazine for architecture and design. In its previous forms, the magazine was known as Archis (1986-1997), Wonen (1973-1986), TABK – Tijdschrift voor Architectuur en Beeldende Kunsten (1960-1973), and Het Katholieke Bouwblad (1929-1960). In 2004, Archis reinvented itself as VOLUME magazine, joining forces with AMO and C-Lab, a think tank at the GSAPP of Columbia University. Archis remained active as its publisher. Since 2023, VOLUME magazine is a collaboration between Archis and Nieuwe Instituut. The magazine is a cross-pollinator between the in-depth editorial content of VOLUME and the research and programmes of the Nieuwe Instituut, while maintaining its editorial independence.
